HIP HOP – available for –

Hip Hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music and is hugely popular amongst boys and girls. This class is very current and includes a wide range of styles within such as popping, locking, breaking and tutting which were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the USA. This class is very funky and movements are sharp and fast as well as energetic.

CHEERLEADING – available for –

Cheerleading or otherwise known as Pom dance is a class which focuses on technique, flexibility and choreography. Children will learn everything from high kicks, splits and spins to leaps, jumps and tricks. This class is fast paced and full of fun and teaches discipline through out as well as team work.

COMMERCIAL – available for –

Commercial dance encompasses a myriad of styles. This can include street, jazz, hip hop and contemporary. Commercial is the type of dance seen in music videos, on the catwalk and at fashion shows, advertising campaigns and in TV and film. Commercial is the most current and popular style of dance and continues to grow. The class consists mainly of confidence building exercises and choreography, it is extremely sassy so bring your attitude.

CONTEMPORARY/ LYRICAL – available for –

Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dance is all about expressing emotion through organic movements and unrestricted lines. Contemporary dance is an exciting fusion which allows pupils to work through powerful and emotional routines.

JAZZ- available for –

Jazz is a highly energetic class focusing primarily on technique. Pupils will learn everything from cardio warm ups to technical across the floor exercises, strength and flexibilty as well as choreography. Jazz is an umbrella term which incorporates influences from many other styles such as musical theatre, street and commercial as well as original jazz which emerged from America in the early 20th century. This class is fast paced and energetic.

BALLET – available for –

Ballet is the foundation of all dance and is the number one recommended class to encourage technique and growth in all dancers. Ballet originated during the Italian renaissance and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. Ballet has become a widespread highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. Through out the class fundamental characteristics of ballet will be taught including barre, turn out, alignment, port de bras, posture, centre work including correct body positions, lines and angles.

TAP – available for-

Tap is a form of dance characterised by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. The sound is made by shoes which have a metal tap on the toe and heel. There are several variations of tap dance including rhythm tap classical tap and broadway tap. Influences can come from Jazz dance and musical theatre and in more recent years street dance. Regarded as one of the most difficult styles to learn due to not only the dance steps but also the rhythms created with the feet, tap is an absolute must for the keen dancer.

MUSICAL THEATRE – available for –

Musical Theatre is a form of theatrical performance combining acting, song and dance. This class will focus on all 3 disciplines and pupils will learn about musicals and take on the music and choreography from some of the most well loved broadway and west end shows. Musical Theatre is full of fun and energy and encourages confidence building and team work. This is a feel good class loved by all who participate.

ACRO GYMNASTICS – available for –

Acro Gymnastics is a floor based class focusing on improving flexibility and tricks that will compliment dance classes. The dancers will work on stretching, improving core strength and range of movement each week. Basic skills such as handstands, cart wheels and forward rolls will be worked on and developed to progress to walk overs, aerials and back hand springs and more.

Our Tiny tot and pre school acro gymnastics class is based on the pupils age only.

All other acro gymnastics classes are based on ability and are separated into levels. Pupils Primary 1 or above should register for the class suitable to their ability. Please see below for a description of each level and choose the one appropriate for your child -

Level 1 Beginner

For individuals who are new to gymnastics and are looking to learn basic skills. Class will involve stretch and strength training and pupils will learn the foundations of gymnastics; including forward rolls, handstands and cartwheels.

Level 1 Intermediate

For individuals who are experienced in foundational gymnastics skills. These individuals are required to complete these skills without assistance. These include forward roll, handstand and cartwheel. The class will involve strength training to perfect these skills which will help gain more confidence to advance to level 2.

Level 2

For individuals who are more experienced and confident in learning more advanced gymnastics. Pupils must be able to complete front and back walkovers with assistance from staff. This class will focus on gaining confidence to perform these skills on their own. Pupils MUST be able to fall back into a bridge without assistance.

Level 3

For individuals who are at a level to learn the most advanced skills in gymnastics, including aerials and back handsprings. Pupils in level 3 must be able to perform a front and back walkover without assistance.

DRAMA – available for –

In our drama class we will use a wide range of different techniques to learn all things drama and stage. We will look at scripts and plays, prop creation and creating our own projects all through games and activities within class.

The class will consist of working on script work, reading poems and improvisation. Focussing on increasing the childrens confidence in trying new things and taking risks. All while enhancing social skills and making new friendships in a safe and encouraging environment.
